Balance in LTCL Programme ?
on: November 16, 2011, 04:05:31 AM
Hey All,
I am just after some quick feedback regarding the balance of my initial programme for my LTCL examination next year.
Pieces are in the following order:
1) Chopin - Allegro de Koncert, Op 46 (A major)
2) Rachmaninoff - Etude in A minor, Op 39 #2
3) Beethoven - Sonata in A Major, Op 101
The theme of this programme is reflection, and all three pieces fit this notion very well.
What do others think of the balance between the pieces? Any opinions are welcome. Please however, refrain from suggesting playing anything by Bach (or indeed any Baroque composer) as i am omitting this period for a specific reason.
Cheers

That I think is a good program. I mean, you've got virtually all 3 periods you've chosen represented. For the Rachmaninoff etude, I'm not saying that is a bad option, but isn't that a bit Romantic? You've got the Chopin allegro de Koncert representing the Romantic period. So just try to look for a more 20th century piece with a reflection type of feel. If you can't find it, just stick with the Rachmaninoff because that itself is a strong option. Your program's really strong however. I like how your program is contrasting i.e a combo of moderately fast and slow pieces.
