Brought together in the early part of the 19th century, some of the pieces in this collection are transcriptions of instrumental works. However, these masterfully constructed miniatures are well suited to keyboard performance and are characteristic of Haydn's humor, tenderness, charm and passion. The selections provide intermediate pianists with a wealth of musical ideas and harmonic invention, and are similar in difficulty to Haydn's Sonatinas.
These are not original piano works, but 'easy piano' arrangements of themes from Haydn's later symphonies (and one string quartet). As the blurb on the Amazon page says:So you won't find any pianist has recorded them.If you want to hear the original versions, they are the themes from:1. String Quartet op. 74/2 2nd movement2. String Quartet op. 74/2 4th movement3. Symphony 94 2nd movement4. Symphony 93 4th movement5. Symphony 92 2nd movement6. Symphony 96 4th movement7. Symphony 95 4th movement8. Symphony 85 2nd movement9. Symphony 96 3rd movement10. Symphony 89 3rd movement11. Symphony 89 4th movement12. Symphony 89 2nd movement
These pieces aren't listed in New Grove, or mentioned anywhere else that I've been able to consult. I don't think there's any possibility that they're by Haydn himself. The Russian translations in the score on the PDF suggest that they may be the work of a local Russian arranger. My quote mentions sonatinas, but there are no authentic Haydn works originally entitled Sonatina. Any works so called either are re-titlings of some of the simpler early sonatas that Haydn originally designated Partita or Divertimento, or are arrangements of other works. For instance I can see that there's aSonatina in Chttps://everynote.com/piano.show/126869.notewhich is actually H XVI/7 (Landon no. 2),and a set of 6 Sonatinashttps://imslp.org/wiki/6_Sonatinas_(Haydn,_Joseph)which are arrangements from Haydn's baryton trios. I'd guess that the Alfred publication of 6 Sonatinas that's also listed on Amazon is another printing of the same pieces.
I have the mp3 format of the 12 short pieces by Haydn. But I guess i'm too late to reply! I can still give them to you if you happen to read this..
hmmm, even i was looking for it, like you. But I didn't find any professional recordings. I found videos of the 12 easy pieces on youtube, its good but not free flowing. I guess that person was also trying to learn it. So i converted them to mp3 and it's decent enough to follow. Decent enough than nothing. Don't mind them?
Check your email in a while. The 12 pieces are on their way. All the best and all :-)
