beginner: Yamaha NP11 ?
on: November 18, 2011, 09:34:13 PM
Hi all im new to this site and i will start to pick up piano again in my collage apartment.

I only have a VERY shitty keyboard that must be about 25 years old, it has no touch at all and it when you push the tangents it feels like writing on a PC

So all I need is a clavinova, a cheap one, and ive seen Yamaha  NP 11 though is it enough with 61 tangents ?....

Do you have any ideas on something that I should buy, my budget is on about 450dollars

I would try to find a digital with at least weighted keys with 88 notes. Yamaha, Casio and Korgs preferably.

Yes, buy the Yamaha Clavinova. I usually find that it simulates the touch, tone and sound of the piano. Try finding Keyboards with 88 keys and with some weight on the keys too, preferably yamaha. If not, casio should be fine.
Funny? How? How am I funny?

The NP11 keys will feel very light and not at all like a real piano.  When someone suggests "Clavinova" they are talking about the $2000+ console units from Yamaha, not this little thing.  Still it would probably be a big improvement over your 25 year old cheap keyboard.

For $450 you may be able to get a Casio PX-130.  Yamaha P95 costs a little bit more, but maybe you could haggle it down to $500.  For any portable or stage model you have to also consider the cost of a stand, pedals, etc.  So maybe these models are stretching your budget.  But to me these represent the bottom end of things that almost feel like a real piano (and they have 88 keys also).  Anything I've tried that costs less than this did not feel so great to me.

Don't think I've played that one, but it should be competitive with the others at that price range.  The best thing is to get to a music store and try instruments for yourself.

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
