Satie was a strange fellow. I know most stories are hard to prove but they are interesting nonetheless. Some interesting discussion was here:

i love how quirky Satie was. He was also fond of purposely pushing back against the stuffiness and formality of the art music establishment.  on some program notes i made last year i had a short mention to a story about how he once composed a work with the score in the shape of a pear simply becuase a critic remarked once that is music 'had no form'.

he had moments where his music was very lyrical, had a singing quality (vs much of his work that is considered a preview of what would become ambient/new age classical).

this is a cool one, i'm not very keen on 'grades' and difficulties, i think it just depends on a combination of your natural skill, training, current teacher, and how much you're willing and able to work at it.

this is one of my favorites (and she's just a joy to watch, you'll have to wait about 45 sec or so for it to begin but it's worth it):

I like his compositions!  :D   though I haven't listened to all of his works but only a few(like the Gnossienie No1). I like the feeling there, it doesn't give you an intense, centralised theme/emotions as many or most music do but it makes you feel, like in a silent space without any other objective, only the notes there directly buckle the moods you're in as some loose sands, or some light tranquil here-and-there hits into your mind. sometimes I'd feel tired or no interest to listen to songs as they all seem to have a theme to express that will arouse your emotions and, i don't know, take you more energy to really enjoy it(especiall the classical music), sometimes you may be really moody and bored and anxious and just want to purely enjoy being musical rather the content. and Erik Satie's work is good for that. :D

and I love the tranquil clean feeling in his compositions for piano, always making me feel the existence of silence(not the silence in our normal perception but some 'inner' silence that's somehow tensioned out between note and note). as for his creepy or quirky part, maybe my first impression was like that, though i can't quite remember that now. maybe his 'quirky' has gotten me?  :P     I feel i can always relate different kinds of feelings(like a crsipy cold morning, or being alone, or being in departure, or some magical queer myth) to some of his music which I'm into.

I always feel his music can be used in many movie scenes(maybe they've already been used somewhere but i just didn't know  :P).

I agree. don't concern too much about the grade thing, just try your best to work on it if you like to.  :P
