Found error in score? (Chopin - Raindrop prelude)
on: November 24, 2011, 10:20:05 PM
Hey there,
I'm currently learning Chopin's raindrop prelude and I think I found an error in the score - what are the odds? Let's see if you agree with me:
I'm using the Breitkopf & Härtel score that you can find here. I'm talking about the first beat of measure 65 (page 22, second row, first measure). I also attached measures 60-69 to this post and marked the chord.
I think the sharp is placed incorrectly in front of the D instead of the B.
What do you think?

No, it is correct, because it creates the necessary chord for that beat.  The score is fine.

No that score is wrong, it's supposed to be a B#. D# is anyway in the key sig so it wouldn't even make sense to write it again there.

Yes I thought the same. On the other hand I also have seen scores where a sharp/flat was repeated in a measure for clarification (after a change of key or something) but I think in this case that doesn't make sense.
Thanks

I don't have the same score format as you, but I verified it and you are right, the sharp note has to be B instead of D.

Have you listened it when you produce it?, listening it and perceiving that there is something out of how it should sound can give also a clue.

Yeah I tried the 'wrong' chord and it doesn't sound that wrong to me, different but not wrong.
I wonder how many people using this score have played it the wrong way  8)
