can you tell me about these alkan pieces?
on: September 07, 2004, 01:00:27 PM
which is easiest and hardest from the following?

Alkan’s Etudes in Minor Keys, Op. 39 (the complete Symphony for Solo Piano, Op. 39, Nos. 4–7; the complete Concerto for Solo Piano, Op. 39, Nos. 8–10; and "Le Festin d’Ésope" [Aesop’s Feast], Op. 39, No. 12); Saltarelle, Op. 23; Barcarolle, Op. 65, No. 6; and Toccatina, Op. 75

Also, and im sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but are some of these pieces harder to play than the rach 3?

Well the op.39 etudes are all hard, no.1 is probably the hardest to play properly. Also no.8 is tricky.

The Solo Concerto is one of the hardest (pleasant to listen to..) piano pieces, though I wouldn't bother comparing it with a piano concerto where the difficulties are much more subtle.

oh ok. I found the sheet music for those pieces and am considering trying a couple, after first reading about him on this forum in a hardest piano piece thread.

Just read the introduction to the Dover edition by M-A Hamelin and he says the Barcorolle from Opus 65 is the easiest to start with, mainly just argegios in both hands.
