Schaff tunig hammer
on: November 30, 2011, 10:17:09 AM
I have picked up a 1950's Schaff tuning hammer with a bakelite handle. Does anybody here know if there is any value to this hammer? The hammer is in great condition. Just wondering if the age or the handle increases its worth.

Probably the age increases it's age as it does with other antiques. I think the great condition of your hammer may increase it's worth.

Maybe its just that I read the article but the Schaff brand is among the finest tuning hammers.

"The Worlds Best Tuning Hammer"
Those are big words. I would rather say that they are among the best.
It is very much individually which type of tuning hammer we use.
I do not think your hammer is worth more than a new one, if that much. If it was a Hale tuning hammer though then there would probably be tuners who would pay a good price for it!

That's what I said even though the article said 'The World's Best Tuning Hammer'. I'm sure it will cost more than a new one because of its durability and it's antiquity for another thing. I'm sure however it won't last longer though when used!

JL, I noticed what  you said, and I did not mean to refer those "big words" to you, but to the link you provided.

Thanks mates. I plan to use it as a back up. My main hammer is also a Schaff that is adjustable. I don't think my main hammer will have any problems so this one may sit for a while, unless I find a bakelite collector.

Good luck wiwth it! first you might want to test the hammer to see if it really is in good condition although you most likely have done that.

I use a Schaff. Its a very good hammer. The best? Ever hear the term "its good if you like it?" There are some pretty fancy carbon fiber hammers out there going for 400 bucks or so. IMHO, its hype. A good quality hammer is all you need. The clubs didn't make Tiger a champ.
I don't see much of a market for antique tuning hammers. Again.....its worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

You will get half price of your schaff tunig hammer as it is in well condition as said and you have already used it.
