Recital Program Suggestions please????
on: December 01, 2011, 02:00:00 PM
Hi Everyone!!!

Just looking for some advice. I'm hoping to sit a recital medal exam with RIAM this summer. It's the intermediate medal (Grade V-VI) but I did start on my Grade VII. So that's the standard I'm at.

So far, I am working on Chopin Nocturne No.19, Ravel's Prelude (1913) and dusting off my Satie Gymnopedie No.1 and Bach's Prelude No.13 in F minor from WTC2. I'm also working on the short Downton Abbey Theme as something light. The program needs to be between 12-15 minutes and my teacher and I were looking at the majority of what I have are while, different periods and styles, they all have a laid back, relaxing mood to them. So I'm looking at needing something a bit more lively sounding and a little bit faster. We were considering the Fur Elise but it's so well known, and either the Maple Leaf Rag or The Entertainer by Joplin, for the jazz feel. My teacher also mentioned Martinu's Puppet Dance, but that seems to be quite high in standard and I only need to be well on my way by March for entering for the examination session as it starts in April and lasts till early June and you need to be ready to be called at any time.

I personally prefer Romantic to modern music, and French composers from the turn of the century (19th-20th) and I'd easily fill a program with that but I need it more varied, so I am looking for suggestions.

Thanks.

this is different on many levels you get a little jazzy here or there, it's french (me thinks)
Ibert, A Giddy Girl (from Histories) not as fast as you're prolly wanting, but there are others in the suite that meet that need, finding demo video of them at the moment is challenging though

Hi! Thanks for the suggestions. They were definitely along the lines of what I was looking for. Hummel didn't really grab me but I have listened through Ibert's Histories. Nos 2, 4, 7 & 9 are quite interesting. Since I've a lesson tomorrow, I'll bring these along to it and see what my teacher thinks. Thanks, the pdf file was handy for this reason.
