Anyone Else Get the Super Mario Series Song Book?
on: December 04, 2011, 04:29:36 PM
I picked it up after it was mentioned here. Video game music in general is one of the main reasons I wanted to start learning how to play. The Super Mario Series for Intermediate Piano has some good transcriptions in it. Prior to that, however, I used fan-made transcriptions and have learned simplified versions of a lot of my favorite tunes (mostly music from Mario or Zelda games).
Has anyone else picked up the Super Mario Series song book? Right now I'm working on learning the ending theme from Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (AKA SMB2 in Japan) and to a lesser extent the Water Music from Super Mario 64.

Hey! We seem to be in the same boat. Video game music is what inspired me to become a musician in the first place, and to this day I still play and arrange a lot of songs for piano.
How is the book? I read about it last week but never saw any samples from it so I'm not sure whether or not it is worth buying. I also have played from a lot of fan-made transcriptions and some of them range from very simple to virtuoso-level difficulty far beyond my abilities (see: the Athletic theme, that can be a real doozy). I would definitely pick it up if it's not completely scattered across difficulty levels though.

Well, I'm by no means an expert on the subject, but I've plonked my way through most of the songs and they all sound spot-on to me.

I've got the Intermediate/Advanced book of Mario. Most of it is fast and some of them I find are rhythmically tricky.
