Choping Waltz A Minor
on: December 13, 2011, 08:51:19 PM
I still cant read music, but hey...This piece is level 5 according to the website, and i figure il learn it. Im pretty sure that everyone at least has heard this way before i have.
Should i attempt to learn this off a video? i still cant read music but i can play a couple other pieces that are grade 5 based off this website?
Should i even bother or does someone think this piece is over my head?

Do you mean Op. 34/2 or the Posthumous one?
Both already come with their challenges, note reading aside. IMO, I think you should keep this as a long term goal and work instead on your reading skills.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I think you shouldn't watch the video.
Play it after the sheets, even though it will be a pain in the butt at first, you will have to learn how to sightread one day or you will regret it.
Better start right now.
Also, how cool wouldn't it be to complete your piece only by reading the sheet paper?
Probably small mistakes will occour, but you can always watch the video only AFTER you tried to figure a section out yourself.

Post a recording of the pieces you have learned, then people will be better placed to assess whether the Chopin A Minor Waltz is within your reach or not!?
Seriously, you should learn to read music! I think it is a great asset to have a good ear as well - but reading means you don't have to depend on videos!

It seems as though it would be much easier to just learn how to read music. You can miss a lot of important details in music when you teach yourself it by ear. But then again, it is always important to have a good ear, but the ability to read music is more so.
