New Kawai - A49 at 444KHz - retune needed?
on: December 27, 2011, 12:01:39 PM
Have had my new Kawai RX3 for 2 months now. I noticed originally that it was rather sharp vs. concert pitch, but thought I'd await a first tuning before doing anything...

After this first tuning, the temperament octave is around 18 cents sharp. I know the piano will settle in time, but I'm worried that since I'll inevitably be doing the odd bit of unison tuning, that I'll just be helping maintain the sharpness.

Should I get it retuned down to concert pitch at this point?

What do you mean by "Concert Pitch"? Tuning for concerts I have been asked to tune in 440 up to 445. There is no concert pitch imo.

If you live in an area where you have high RH in the summer and low RH in the winter and if you intend to have the piano tuned twice a year, you could have the piano tuned in 442 in the summer and 440 in the winter. Then you will not have to make big pitch changes by each tuning, and the tuning will be more stable.

If you have about the same RH the whole year, have it tuned in the pitch you like.

Have a Piano Life Saver installed to keep the soundboard stable is a very good investment!
