Summerkeys
on: January 05, 2012, 01:04:35 AM
I just registered and sent my deposit for Summerkeys in Maine for the week of June 18th. Has anyone here ever attended? I would love to hear any experiences that others have had. I am really looking forward to it but don't know if I will be brave enough to play at the end of the week. It is optional. I have always had horrible performance anxiety and I keep reading the posts on how to deal with it.
Thanks, Judy

I actually hadn't heard of this until now, and I've never performed so I probably won't be very helpful!
But, I do live in Maine and for what it's worth, if a summer week in a remote Maine town doesn't relax you... nothing will.
My only advice is maybe to practice in front of people as much as possible before you go. And if it's optional, don't commit yourself to deciding right now.. instead of giving yourself the jitters just enjoy yourself there and see how you feel when the time comes!
Anyway, that's my $.02. Sounds like an extraordinary time though... maybe with a few more year's practice I'll try to sign up for a week down the road.

Thanks for the reply. Summerkeys is in Lubec, Maine, right near the Canadian border. I have always loved Maine and the ocean and it looks like a lovely little town. They accept pianists of any level, including complete beginners. I just returned to the piano last winter after 45 years.
