Recognise this scherzo movement? (URGENT!!)
on: January 06, 2012, 10:02:44 AM
Does anyone recognise this piece of music? I need to play it as a test and have 10 days to prepare, so it would be nice to hear some interpretations.

Thank you so much in advance!

If no one told you the composer, I'm sure part of the test is to see how well you can blindly learn something without listening to recordings.

It looks like early Schubert or Haydn. Maybe that will help your interpretation more.

I don't think they really care, they just send me a PDF of the sheet music. As you can see, it isn't even properly scanned, so they are not taking everything too seriously.

I tried searching the classical composers, but couldn't find anything..

This movement is followed by "Canzonette: Allegretto con espressione" btw.

Thanks though!

I have found it! It is from "10 Akvareller" op. 19 by Danish composer Niels Gade.

The rest of the work is, in case you would like to see the context of the piece, in the attachment.

I hope I helped you. :)

Best regards, Dr

THANK YOU. I suspected it being from a Danish composer (I am from Denmark), but we don't really have any classical composers, and I thought that this was definitely from the 18th century..

Thanks again!

Great find, Dr.!

Hey, I wasn't too far off, right!? Right... ?

Thank you! The thing that helped me was the following canzonette. :) Actually, I also thought that it is Schubert's Scherzo (I played one on one of my exams and the score looked familiar :P ) but I have searched through all Schubert's scherzi and works that could possibly contain scherzi (sonatas) and found nothing similar. Then I noticed that the poster said that the scherzo should be followed by a canzonette. So I just searched for this combination and came across Gade's work. Good luck playing it!

Best regards, Dr

I thought i had tried every possible combination using the different names, tempi, instructions and keys on Google. I guess you're just better than me doing that.
I am sorry to hear that you really spent time looking for this, but definitely very grateful that you would do that for me!

Thanks again!
