Do you know what Liszt meant by "Indian" in this piece?  Is it Red Indian in the Americas or Indian in Asia?

It's a transcription from Meyerbeer's Opera "l'Africaine" (the African lady) which is the story of Vasco de Gama's trip to Madagascar, so I guess it's "afro-indian" haha!

Thanks a lot for sharing. I never knew that this piece ever existed until now. Definitely one of the most neglected pieces of Liszt. Probably the the common Liszt pieces everyone hears comprises about only 10/20 percent of his piano output.

Totally agree! The hungarian rhapsodies, H-moll sonata, années de pélerinage (etc..) are 20% of what Liszt could have amazingly composed!

recently discovered another thrilling paraphrase on themes from Haendel's great Sarabande. I've recorded it too, so I'll post it soon :)
