next polonaise by chopin?
on: September 12, 2004, 11:15:14 PM
i've done chopin polonaise in G flat major, and i'm wondering now-would be polonaise op.44 in f sharp minor too difficult? previous one wasn't so hard, quiet easy one. i'm 15, almost 16   :D

I would say that this is one of the hardest polonaises.Mabey the militay polonaise in a flat major would be more suitable, this is a very famous piece but not too difficult. If you played the g flat major with ease you could probably do something harder. In my opinion even the heroic polonaise is easier than the f sharp  minor and this is defintely his most famous polonaise. But if you think you can do it go for it but it may take longer than expected.

Listen to your teacher :D there has been a post about the scherzo in b flat  minor on this forum already.I played this song last year when i was a sophomore and it is so rewarding when you play it good. This is probably my favorite song but i also love the f minor polonaise, it has a nice mazurka section but the scherzo has everything, powerful chords, beautiful flowing sections and an amazing coda.So if it was up to me i would play the scherzo since you have already played a polonaise.I wanted to play the third scherzo but decided to play the fourth ballade cause i have already played a scherzo. But it's up to you whichever song you like the most cause you are the one that will do all the hard work but both are great pieces.

I prefer the no.3 scherzo myself, but hey.

Theres nothing wrong with learning 2 polonaises at the same time - I often group pieces together when I learn them (2 Ballades, 2 Etudes, etc)
