All I recognize from that are Fur Elise and Dvorak's 9th Symphony.  ;)

I got majorly flamed and called an (asian) racist when I politely pointed out it wasn't that impressive. And he played the Mario theme on that video.

So no opinion from me this time...

This kid's playing is completely meretricious. I went to this one forum that almost worshipped him. He's ok, but not impressive like everyone thinks.

He's pretty good considering the music for his mario repetoire is huge and the originals are not that complicated they are pretty simple stuff he has made masterpieces out of mediocre work.

He's good...  but I think he overexaggerates his movement wayyyy too much.  It's not really necessary.

I have seen Alpin Hong played the Mario Themes (main, underworld, heaven, waterworld) as a introduction to the SuperStar Etude op.1

Alpin is WAAAAAAAAAAY better.

ok, well...

I didnt like parts of it- didnt especially remind me of 9-11.  He is full of all kinds of annoying mannerisms, like when he falls to the left of the bench, or stands up upon finishing the piece.  I thought he should have made up his own melodies instead of combining the heroic polonaise, fur elise, the moonlight sonata, Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 and the Star Spangled Banner.

I found it sort of irratic everywhere- like the Fortissimo passages seemed to come from no specific place.  He needs to work on developing a phrase and accentuating a melody through all the pounding chords.  Speaking of pounding chords, he used WAY too much right pedal for almost everything.  i think he tried to do something like Gottschalk's Union, but it didnt come out too well. -->BUT, I still enjoyed watching him- he has pretty impressive technique in places.

I didn't watch the video, but I saw the ones of him playing the mario pieces.

Did you see his xanga site?  I quote from the site:

Anybody who donates 15 dollars or more will receive my professional mp3 recordings of the Mario music I played in the Ebaumsworld/GPrimeNet video as well as some Final Fantasy music.  They will receive my autograph.

EDIT: Also, they will receive the sheet music I have not released online that I played in my second video.  The music includes: Super Mario World 1: Intro, Overworld Themes, and the Ghost Theme.

Can you believe this guy?

Again for show, not for meaning.  (but still impressive with the blindfold, but other than that, its a gimmick)

He's called the blindfolded pianist, but he only plays a few pieces blindfolded.  The 10 minute video of him playing through all the Mario songs is one example.  He only plays the first song blindfolded and the rest with his glasses.  What the hell?  Haha.
Anyway, I just don't like the way he plays in general.  I think he uses the right pedal way too much and it just blurs his music.  Furthermore, he plays REALLY hard when he's stepping on the pedal.  He hops around unnecessarily and his ending pose for the 9/11 video clip was hilarious, especially with his hands folded together like he was praying.  It was just lame.

His left hand octave technique was good.

Um...and, his...acting?

Er...perhaps his...piano, yes, it looked quite nice.  Very nice.  It was lovely.

I wish i could play like that.

I just hope he never shows it to a family member of a 9-11 victim...

I think that is possibly one of the worst things i have ever seen. That gut has a long way to go if he wants to be a concert pianist. I would be annoyed if liszt or chopin had mannerisms like that.

yeah, I know- maybe he's trying to look like he is ducking out of the way of the incoming jets!

I felt as though fur elise and the 3rd movement of Moonlight sonata were horribly out of place.

Lack of discretion in the meaning of those two pieces.
He needed something tragic, but uplifting in the end.  Plus I find he should have composed something original if he was that passionate to remember 9/11 instead of taking classics and applying them to today.  It just doesn't work  :P

I think a great piece that matches the 911 incident would be Liszt's Legende No.2. It has a melancholy tone, but a supernatural inner strength, hidden away from the world not to be revealed all at once, but in waves..

His "Super Mario Bros" arrangements are really pretty good.

I'll admit to having downloaded and learned the first one.  I'm 24 years old, and anyone from my generation will recognize that song instantly.  I can't wait for the first time I get to play it for a group.  No doubt it'll get a big applause.

Having pieces like that is important; not many people warm up to Brahms the first time, so knowing popular stuff is a good way to bring people into your pianism.  I've been surprised at how *few* people really know the Rhapsody in Blue -- a disappointment!

The music found in the games aren't very complicated, but the original compositions are. I do agree, though, he did a good job arranging them all for piano.

Well, I only saw the 9-11 thingy, but if this guy's biggest claim to fame is the ability to play themes from the Mario Bros., then he needs to find some new schtick fast, because that's nothing to even bother bragging about.

Anyway, the guy has got some pretty good technique, but way too much pedal, and his composition wasn't cohesive at all. I had trouble following it.

And by the way, is the "blindfolded pianist" thing supposed to be a metaphor or something?. Cuz he didn't look blindfolded to me.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
