NEED SOMETHING TRANSCRIBED/ARRANGED??? Ask me here...
on: January 21, 2012, 03:22:41 PM
Ladies and gentlemen...

I'm looking for your help. I'm a transcriptionist and arranger, and frankly I'm looking for something to really inspire me to begin seriously transcribing and arranging for the piano. I feel there could be a decent amount of money in it, but frankly first - I'd like to get a little practice. I'm currently asking anyone who has any pieces that are out of copyright that they would like to hear arranged for the piano solo or piano duet.

Why am I asking? I'm BORED!!! I want to do this for a living, but I'd like to first of all prove my worth. I feel that I could probably transcribe anything or arrange anything from ear, and want to try a couple of trial pieces first.

Anyone who has a decent idea that takes my interest, I shall arrange it and give them a free copy. If you have a recording of a piece then that's all I need.

Any ideas? If you want to know the quality of my work, here are a couple of my arrangements.

Nico Nico Douga Medley:

Hi there! If you are in the mood, would you like to transcribe Shostakovich's suite for variety orchestra, which is great. Also another great piece is the Czech suite by Dvorak. Last, if you want anything non classical, tell me and I will pm you with some!
Have fun,  :)
Jim

Mmmm... So far, some interesting suggestions.

I've already listened to the Mendelssohn, the Dvorak and the Digimon Adventure song.

The Mendelssohn is a brilliant piece of music, but because it is so polyphonic, plus the fact that the piece already has a meaty Piano part - I somehow think it would be rather impossible to arrange it for piano solo simply because to physically play the melody without sacrificing any of the melodic notes, you'd probably need to arrange it for piano duet (or 2 pianos).

As for the digimon - the the accompaniment seems rather bland. I'm looking for something a little more challenging... Although I had to laugh, the intro to that song is in the Nico Nico Douga Medley that I posted.

I've listened to the Dvorak, and so far it's definitely got me intrigued. If anyone else has any good suggestions in the next day, then I'll hold off choosing until then... but so far the Dvorak is in front.

The shostakovitch isn't bad either - I just seem to be having a little trouble getting a full performance on YouTube, and there doesn't seem to be that many Variety Suite videos on YouTube. Any help?

Well you are right! It is difficult to find it because of a misunderstanding! You know, this piece was thought to be his Jazz suite for orchestra no 2 and its name sometimes can be found unchanged! So here is a link to this "Jazz" Suite on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF53FA991F0BED43C

What about one piano - four hands arrangements? I would really like to see Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and American in Paris in that form. I am saying that because I really want to have such an arrangement, not only to give you an idea. :)

I'd be interested in seeing a piano solo version of Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien.

Ooooo... some interesting choices. Some great movie soundtracks that were brought to my attention, as well as some interesting Japanese/Anime music.

Damn... There's quite a few songs that I could get started on. How to choose...

 :-\

Any more suggestions to keep the brain juices flowing???

how about the piano plus orchestra version of the first movement (allegretto) of Karl Jenkins' Concerto Grosso "Pallido".  Boosey and Hawkes publishes the solo piano, and orchestrated versions for strings, winds, etc., but this 'concerto' style arrengment is interesting and I have not seen any information on who published (if at all), it would be intersting to read through (if you could do a reduction of the 'orchestra' for piano ii that would be cool, or you could combine them and go a concert solo or paraphrase on the theme, that could work too)

might be a fun project for you with it having a 'baroque-ishesque" sound but still modern enough to appeal to your other interests.

which reminds me i have that solo around here somewhee, been ages since i played it, might have to dust it off again and throw it into my mix

Just letting you know - I haven't forgotten about this thread... Was just working on a side project for one of the users, so I'll be back to this very, VERY soon.    ;D

Any other suggestions before I ultimately make up my mind?

It would be kinda fun to write variations on an opera theme don't you think?
Ravel Jeux D'eau
Brahms 118/2
Liszt Concerto 1
Rachmaninoff/Kreisler Liebesleid

Oh for goodness sake - be serious. How do you transcribe a piece with 2 chords and practically spoken lyrics.
