Hello from England!
on: January 27, 2012, 03:53:58 PM
I'm David, 42 y.o English male and I restarted piano lessons at the beginning of 2012. I'm not the most confident of people and I'm always quick to criticise myself which is probably why I gave up after passing my Grade 2 with Distinction! But I should have done something much less drastic - changed teacher!!! I'm now practising frequently and the ENJOYMENT factor has returned with a vengeance!
I'd love to make lots and lots of pianoey friends through Pianostreet!

Welcome to pianostreet! I've always been an admirer of "late starters" - I think it takes so much more dedication and work. On the other hand, it's probably an even great passion!

Hello birba.
I think the whole 'discovery' thing is fantastic, and finding out about classical music. people are still playing early music Baroque and classical, but pop music from 5 or 10 years ago is being forgotten about. The Spice Girls music (if you can call it that!!!) has absolutely no longevity and memorability compared with some of Bach's grand organ works or Beethoven's sonatas
Learning the piano also has tremendous therapeutic value too!

good for you roseamelia! Have you taken your grade 1 yet?? I skipped mine on the advice of my old piano teacher.
I can't stay away from my piano! Strange as it may seem every time I go upstairs to the toilet I have to pop in to the piano room and have a quick practise at my homework piece. My next lesson is next Wednesday - when's yours??

Yeah, thats what I meant...sounds like you've come on a long way in a relatively short time! i normally have my lesson on a Tuesday but next week it's Wednesday. I have lots to play her and it's probably just as well that I have an extra day to work on them!

My teacher said she can tell I'm gonna be a great pianist someday
I'm not that good in front of crowds though

My teacher has arranged for me to play a piano solo at a church concert in march. Last time I tried to get my wife to take up the piano by inviting her to a concert where I tried to play the anthem of her football team, but I made a right mess of it. I'm sticking to classical from now on!!!

I'm just not my self when in front of people. I'm not used to it. Oh I just posted the raisins and Almonds song if you want to look at it.

Me too, Which is probably why my teach has arranged it for me. I won't be the least proficient there, and if Benjamin Grosvenor can do it at the Albert hall, I can do it is a small church hall. Even if you just play Three Blind Mice or something in front of an audience, however well you can play it on your own, believe me when you've done it you will feel elated, like you can walk on water! (don't try it tho!!) and you'll want to impress everyone with your playing from then on!

Oh btw thanks for the Raisins and Almonds, looks a lovely little tune. I've always wanted to play Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros, you know the tune I mean??Sounds easy but a SR fan I know tells me it isn't!!

HI David and welcome to the forum. I also joined only a few months ago. I returned to the piano and lessons about a year ago after 45 years and I'm loving it.
