How To Cope With Bad Days?
on: January 27, 2012, 10:00:25 PM
:'(  Have you ever had such a bad session at the piano, that you felt you were wasting your time?

In my case, I am trying to come to terms with a Nazi neighbour, and also a new digital piano - which I am not getting along with that well.  Playing a piano through headphones isn't ideal. Cheap headphones make me feel I am potentially world class, while my expensive Senheisers make me feel I have fingers likes sledghammers -especially when I try and play the  low trills in the Schubert Gb Impromtu -The damper pedal seems weird compared to an acoustic - I am struggling to adapt -

There are settings I can change - but again it all seems artificial.

Sod it -I am going to upgrade my old 1915 upright -for a Yamaha U3 maybe - I'll just have to play it when I can -

If you can avoid a digital piano -do so!

If you are going to buy the U3, maybe you should try a silent model. I'm quite pleased with mine (U1). Of course it is much nicer to play it as a normal acoustic, but playing silent with headphones isn't that bad now that I'm used to it. And I can play whenever I want :)

The piano does make alot of difference, with some pieces more than others.  But bad days happen to everybady (mine are the rule, godd days the exception  ;D). Patience, patience, perseverance all he qualities we generally don't have are required  :'(.

Seen in positive, that's why piano paying is also a good school of life.

P.S. Early in the morning I'm Miss I-Know-All more than ever. I think I should sleep more  ;D  ;D  ;D

Thanks so much for the feedback -Piano playing is often such a lonely pastime -and you are right patience is not one of my strong points -I suppose I will persevere -because the love I have for the piano will keep drawing me back -a divorce would be too painful I think!
I may even like my digital piano eventually -but playing my acoustic earlier was very cathartic -

I can draw strength from the fact that if bad days are a rule for you -it can still result in being able to play the 'Revolutionary' !!!   ;D

Well, concerning that pesky nazi neighbour I could give you one or the other advice, concerning the piano:yes you're right, when I was younger, I was dreaming of a huge piano (a coda) of about 6 feet or so in my flat, now it's just a digital piano:-( better than nothing at the end...
currently refreshing:
Chopin etudes:
op.10 No.1,4,12
op.25 No.11
Chopin waltz:
op.42 A-flat major

currently learning:
Liszt:
Transc. Etudes: No.10
Un Sospiro
Sorry for my poor english:-(

Don't put yourself down -cos in my experience there are too many willing to do that for you -It won't be easy for me to play it as well as you.

Bad days happen.  So do bad weeks... it's sort of like the weather that way; sometimes it rains, sometimes it doesn't.  On the other hand, there will days when everything just goes wonderfully well!  As has been said, patience, patience, perseverance -- and never let it get you down.  There's always tomorrow!
