How many pieces per year
on: January 28, 2012, 08:28:57 AM
hello everyone,

ive been playing the piano for 8 months now and can play only 3 pieces, two Chopin nocturnes and the revolutionary etude. thats about one piece each 2.5, is that considered slow?
i do not wish to make a career out of the piano but as a hobby.

and ofcourse, i can play sections of other pieces but i don't think that should count :P

little bit confused... Maybe I've too few information... how old are you? did you start playing the piano from scratch? Have you ever played an other instrument?? How many time can you spend on studying your pieces? etc.
I mean, rev.etude after 8 months of piano lessons is really good-no doubt... I wished I had your pianoteacher;-)
o.k. seriously, in my opinion there's nothing to be worried about...With your learning skills it would be advisable to fill up your repertoire with a nice bunch of easier pieces such as weddingday by grieg, or some nice impromptus by schubert or so, you know what I mean? I mean the ballance of difficulty of your repertoire... I bet the schubert impromptu is something you can learn within a few weeks...let me know how it worked out....herman se german
currently refreshing:
Chopin etudes:
op.10 No.1,4,12
op.25 No.11
Chopin waltz:
op.42 A-flat major

currently learning:
Liszt:
Transc. Etudes: No.10
Un Sospiro
Sorry for my poor english:-(

Many people were surprised when i played the revolutionary etude but its not surprising since my left hand is my dominant hand, so it wasn't really very difficult. i really have more trouble playing right hand fast notes.

And when i say i started playing for 8 months, i meant i had a teacher for 8 months. we had a piano in our house and i used to play it for hours when i was young just recreating popular melodies   and pieces, so when i started my lessons i was already very familiar with the geography of the piano and had a decent technique.

anyways, back on topic :P, i really would like to know whats the average pieces you guys play per year, since ive always felt like im short on pieces, and my sight reading is almost non existent, i spend way to much time on a single bar sometimes.
