on: February 02, 2012, 06:26:21 PM
Well I've been noticing over time that I have not been liking what I play mostly what I have is classical and I'm not a fan of classical music that soo.. I like to play jazz but can't find any pieces intermediate level (let's just say level 4 jazz music) If anyone knows of any I'd be glad hear about them. ;D thanks

Look up Christopher norton? Microjazz or Latin preludes are too of his series that might suit you. Difficulties range so you'll have to make up your own mind.

I think the abrsm does a jazz syllabus, and as such puts out graded jazz books. You can download their syllabus online at their website I believe.

If however, you really want to be able to play jazz you could tackle it from a more jazz theory angle. Something like 'the jazz piano book' by mark Levine might help you here. That would be a lot of work though and might push you to your limits mentally without a teacher.

hopefully you can come back to it sometime and watch it, or let it download and just give ti time then come back when it's all there and play it, it's a pretty amazing rendition of the work.

You can also try the easier rags of Scott Joplin who was a ragtime composer. After all, ragtime has some relation to the jazz style ie. syncopation. Some of his easier rags are: pineapple rag, Maple leaf rag, the Comedian, figleaf rag.
George Gershwin and his 3 preludes, as well as I got rhythm are also some good pieces you can try. You might even have some fun with the 1st prelude in B flat major. The rhythm is difficult, but it shouldn't be too hard for you once you get the gist of it.

You should look at some of Chick Corea's songbooks, some of them are meant for intermediate level students ;)

Piano Street Magazine:
Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
