Bartok: Stamping Dance from Mikrokosmos Book 5
on: February 04, 2012, 05:45:59 PM
I learned this last week after my teacher recommended it to me. Its a nice spirited piece.. need to make the end even more spirited than I'm playing currently but I'm happy with it for now. Check it out and thanks for listening.

LIked that a lot!  You've got a very sound sturdy technique accompanied by an impeccable rythm.  How old are you?  You seem to have a facility for reading and learning.  Read and learn as much as you can while you're young.

Hey birba, thanks for your kind comment. I'm 26. I didn't have a good teacher for a long time. I recently started lessons with a piano professor at my university (privately, I'm not a music major). We've had 5 great lessons so far. I'm trying to learn as much new repertoire as possible. I used to be a bad reader but I've gotten better recently. :)

That sounds so good! Wish I had that pro sound. Didn't know this piece, not very familiar with Mikrokosmos, but very well played I must say! I listened to it about 10 times haha

The Mikrokosmos is wonderful... you should read through it sometime. Books 1-4 deal primarily with developing technique and books 5 and 6 are more like performance pieces. I believe Bartok wrote this (at least 1-4) for his son to teach him to play the piano. Instead of using common major/minor modes, he wanted to use other modes and other harmonic ideas to open up a richer sound world to the student, and that is what you hear in these pieces. I teach a couple of kids, and I make them all do the Mikrokosmos and they all love it.
