Very difficult to pick a single one, they're all so atmospheric.

So difficult but for me it is Oseaux Tristes. I'm aspiring to learn that one and put it in my future AmusA repertoire, if possible. Every time I listen to them I feel like I'm in a dream and put me into a trance.

Really difficult one, but I chose Alborada del Gracioso. I've always had the impression that Ravel's true individuality comes across a lot more in the more rhythmical compositions- not necessarily upbeat/fast although things like Alborada, Scarbo and the finale of Daphnis et Chloe are all fantastic compositions, just the ones that make interesting use of rhythm- the opening figuration of Ondine, the bells in Le Gibet and La Vallee des cloches, La Valse, the various other dances within Daphnis.

As much as the first three pieces of Miroirs have elements of what I've been describing above, they are to me not particularly far removed from Debussy. They are still great pieces and I probably listen to them as much as I listen to the final two pieces, but when I think Ravel I think rhythm.

Definitely Alborada del Gracioso, one of my favorite pieces by Ravel.

Why does nobody like Noctuelles? I think Une Barque Sur L'Ocean is my favourite, but then it is: Noctuelles, La Vallee des Cloches, Oiseaux Tristes, Alborada Del Gracioso. All of them are great though.

That's Oiseaux Tristes, isn't it? Still confused as to why nobody likes Noctuelles...

Not difficult for me, although not playing any of them limits my TRUE knowledge of them.   Definitely Boat on the Ocean!

Last year it was Alborada, because I was working on it for a recital  ;D

I thoroughly enjoy the whole set; and I agree with the comment earlier about the genius behind his rhythmic compositions.

I LOVE the slower sections in Noctuelles and Vallee des Cloches (especially the fm/BbM chordal relationship... so amazing!!)

He really transports you into another world with this set.  I think for a general audience, Noctuelles and Oiseaux Tristes are probably the most difficult to 'catch' on a single listen though...but I forced my girlfriend to listen to the set a few times, and her favorites are Vallee des Cloches and Une Barque sur l'Ocean (she doesn't play classical music, but sings for fun lol).

I have to learn the set one day, and am slightly relieved that I had the energy to get through Alborada del Gracioso.  I think that'll be my project after my recital this year.  You can't just leave these pieces after being immersed by them haha
