Piano Duet Suggestion
on: February 05, 2012, 09:39:10 PM
Hello Piano Street,

I am looking for a piano duet recommendation.

I am a fairly advanced player, can play pieces like Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata 3rd mvt.
My roommate is an beginner/intermediate player, can play a piece like Bach's first Invention in C.

We would like to play a duet of some sort. I am fine with going down to his level to play but I still want the duet to be interesting.

I have looked at the Schubert Marches breifly, as well as a duet for Grieg Anita's Song from Peer Gynt. Not sure if he would be able to handle my transcriptions.

Thanks for all suggestions in advance!

Ev

I have one suggestion, Waltz from Masquerade by Kachaturian, around 5th-6th  grade standard. Unfortunately I don't have the sheet music for it, my sister does. It should be not too hard for your duet partner. Not too many difficulties in it apart from some trills. With some practice it should be easy for you.

Funny? How? How am I funny?

My piano duet partner and I just performed Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" as arranged by Dame Myra Hess.  There is a 1 piano 4 hands version (which we used) as well as a 2 piano version.  Much of the Secundo is primarily the same note in the R and L hands; the Primo is much more difficult.  Hope this helps...

Perhaps you could play Ma Mere l'Oye by Ravel? It is not very hard I think.

Best regards, Dr
