Need Help! - Yamaha P155

So my father bought himself this piano, and after a short few months he deemed it broken. He says that every "F" and "H" key doesn't work. I myself don't know anything about these instruments and figured it was too much of a coincidence.

Perhaps a setting/option was changed? Maybe a circuit/fuse went out?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well not to be rude but their is no H in music. You might have a old piano do you have any  idea of how old it might be?

There is an H ... but that designation is only used in Germany.

What we call a Bb, they call B.
What we call B, they call H.

Sounds broken to me.  Try a couple of things to try and diagnose where the problem is:

* Do a factory reset
* Try other voices (harpsicord, etc.)
* Try sending the MIDI to a computer and see if it all comes through

What you describe does sound more than coincidental.  Usually the thing that breaks is the mechanical stuff (the internal sensor, the keys, something like that).  What you describe sounds like something electronic and quite odd.

Well not to be rude but their is no H in music. You might have a old piano do you have any  idea of how old it might be?

Well not to be rude but there is. I read somewhere, that 'h' is the equivalent of B flat. Take Bach as an example. His name has been used as a basis for many compositions such as Liszt's B-A-C-H composition. Perhaps the OP is refering to B flat.

I honestly don't know how the electronics of the Yamaha work -- but if it's every F and every H (B flat) my bet would be that there are oscillators in there which establish the fundamental frequency for each note, which are then doubled or halved for the various octaves, and that those two oscillators are bad.

Which may be fixable; more likely not.  But I would think that there would be a warranty, if it was a new instrument.

Digital pianos do not have oscillators.
If every F and H aren't working, there's likely a problem in the key switch matrix.
This might be a minor fault, such as a loose connector.
Regardless, it's fixable.

no oscillators?  Shows you how obsolete my knowledge is... but it still suggests some component common to all the octaves of that pitch.

In European notification Bb (B flat) is written B, and B sharp is written H.

We've not heard back from the original poster. New digitals have warranties. Just take it back...
