Brahms 51 exercises dumb question
on: February 13, 2012, 05:27:31 AM
Does anyone know, specifically,  what aspects of technique the Brahms 51 exercises improve on? i.e. arpeggiated octaves, etc. PLEASE!

I'm asking this dumb quesiton because I can't tell what is being studied in the music when I look at the sheet music.
At my teacher's place he/she demonstrated a few of the exercises occasionally.

And also, can anyone tell me what exercise(s) work on wrist/forearm rotation?

I don't know much about Brahm's 51 exercises so please don't ridicule me if the wrist exercise thingy doesn't exist.

JL
Funny? How? How am I funny?

The Alfred's Masterworks edition has a brief analysis of each. Can't vouch for its accuracy or adequacy.

You can browse it online here : https://books.google.com.au/books?id=fpv_DYQlLn8C&pg=PA3&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=3#v=onepage&q&f=false
