Learning a new piece
on: February 13, 2012, 04:27:46 PM
I am learning and practising the 2 Part Inventions 1,4,7,8, as well as some Chopin works and Minuet in G of Beethoven in piano version.
However, I heard the Claire de Lune of Debussy and I want to play it also. Until now, I have only been learining and playing the first two pages (because the next part seems rather defying due to the speed in the left hand).
Is it fine if you can start learning a new piece even though you haven't mastered your current pieces yet?

I believe it is very common to have several pieces at various stages of learning and of varying difficulties. Playing and learning things you love keeps things interesting during practice. Also sometimes we need to step away from things we are learning to give things time to gel. Moving to another piece keeps you playing but gives you a break from other pieces when needed.
