Beethoven's Hammerklavier.  I loved it yesterday, but it wouldn't behave today and we aren't speaking at the moment. :P

I suspect I'll love it again tomorrow, though.  ;)

Chopin's first Ballade, it is one of my favorite pieces of music, but I have heard it way too many times.

Chopin's Fantasie-Impromptu, Nocturnes 9/2 and 27/2, Waltz 64/1, Etude 10/12... Beethoven Sonata 27/2, that annoying bagatelle in a minor... Liszt Consolation No. 3... Those two arabesques by Debussy...

I blame all those people who insist on playing these same pieces instead of exploring other, much better works.  ::) Also, kids. Always blame the kids  ;D

Currently learning -

- Bach: P&F in F Minor (WTC 2)
- Chopin: Etude, Op. 25, No. 5
- Beethoven: Sonata, Op. 31, No. 3
- Scriabin: Two Poems, Op. 32
- Debussy: Prelude Bk II No. 3

Generally overplayed pieces, such as For Elise, Alla Turca, Chopin nocturne op.9 no.2,...   >:(

A couple of Rachmaninoff Op 33... these are the first pieces I had heard by him, and was obsessed with the Eb major one.  When I listen to them now (after having listened to pretty much all of his output), I can't STAND the F minor or the C# minor ones.  The endings for them are pretty cool, but oh god I would never want to work on those. Op. 39 is freaking incredible, as are both sets of preludes imo.

Chopin's revolutionary etude.  Why does everyone have to play this piece!!  I don't mind fantasie-impromptu because a few people who have played it that I know in the last few years played it well... but the Revolutionary, there were a group of students working on it this year, and most of them totally wrecked it.  The left hand just wasn't quite there.  I love the intro passage, but the C-D-Eb-Eb first octave passage makes me cringe now.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

I have never liked his piano sonatas, unlike his smaller scale works for piano solo.  I am however in love with his concertos.  His piano sonatas, while also larger works just cannot be compared with his concertos, in my opinion.

Beethoven - Sonata in C sharp minor, Op 27 No 12
Chopin - Fantasie Impromptu, Nocturn in C sharp minor, Op post
Brahms - Op 118, Nos 2 & 3

Sonata no. 1, I think, is a masterpiece, although I'll agree that I prefer his concertos. I have 6 different recordings of his third (Sergei himself, Earl Wild, Vladimir Horowitz with the New York Philharmonic, David Helfgott, Evgeny Kissin, and Martha Argerich). I have to force myself not to listen to his third too often because I do not want to wear it out. I really like the first movement of his first, but the second and third movements do not appeal to me, and his second concerto is also phenomenal. I haven't listened to his fourth more than once or twice and I don't remember it at all--I'm saving it for a rainy day  ;D

I'm surprised by just how consistently good Rachmaninoff's piano works are. His preludes are all at least good, and his etudes-tableaux are sensational!

I really like Isle of the Dead, but I don't like most of his symphonic works...violins hurt my ears!

I'm a huge Rachmaninoff fanboy, but not quite enough to have used him in my username (looking at you, Rachmaninoff_forever... :P)

Everything you play. At first, you like it and you listen to it millions of times and then, when you start playing it, you listen to it another million times and you start hating it.
Examples:
Beethoven - Fur Elise
4.33

How about Alkan? I have never been able to play his music without getting tired of it quickly.

*** Notes Alkan is a composer and not a piece.

I find that surprising. Alkan generally has many frustrations when coming to grips with it, but getting tired of it doesn't seem one of them.

Perhaps he just doesn't speak to you in any way. If that is so, no doubt you are both better off if you leave him alone.

Rachmaninoff's stupid prelude in c# minor.

I know, right? His other preludes are so much better, especially Op. 23 No. 4.

So for pieces I now hate:

Mozart's Sonata K. 310: I have grown so incredibly tired of this piece, as I am doing an LTCL for my own private purposes with this on the programme and so have been practicing it.

Schumann's Grillen from Fantasiestucke: I've heard this played WAY too many times.

Beethoven's Sonata in A Major Op. 2 No. 2: This one I hate mostly because my fingers won't cooperate in the scherzo today! I don't know why because it was fine yesterday...

And most overplayed music like Moonlight Sonata, Für Elise, Rondo Alla Turca, etc.
