Teaching Your Date About Piano Can Be Fun!
on: February 16, 2012, 04:16:11 PM
So, have you ever took your date, your girlfriend/your boyfriend, your wife/husband to learn how to play the piano.

Tell us how did it go?

I haven't started dating yet  ;D but when I do, and if my boyfriend can't play piano, I'll teach him this duet that Paul Barton composed.

There are 2 duets in there and they're easy to teach anyone.  What do you think?

Tried. Multiple times with multiple dudes.

Basically it came down to the fact that I am too territorial of my piano and found I liked it a lot more than the men I was with.... And that them banging away on it was pretty much unacceptable, haha.

My current roommate/"bf" loves the instrument but has positively no desire to learn to play, which is the ideal arrangement for me. The fact that he has broken his fingers too many times to count in MMA tourneys kind of makes it an impossibility, one that I'm more-than-okay with......

Swooning and then taking off the clothes. That piano oh yeah. - This was my housemate and not a date though, and there was alcohol involved.

I could see them enjoying it if they were musically inclined or play another instrument. If not there's probably not much of an appeal. unless just mucking around for a short period.

I thought you were married.  ??

If it's actual lessons, I think it would easier to teach or learn from someone you don't know personally.  If it's too informal... I'm thinking there might be an extra layer or shtuff added on over the learning process.

I know a prof who met his wife that way though, although I don't know what the original arrangement was.  Probably, "Hey, let's go over to the piano rooms and I can teach you some thing."   As opposed to, "You're my student.  Do you want to date me?"  I also know one guy in college who was offering piano lessons to other students... Even though he didn't really play piano.... And yet he still managed to have some college students for students.

Early in my marriage I subscribed to the ridiculous notion I could mould my wife into a clone of me (conceit, narcissism?), and I actually successfully persuaded her to do a little bit of piano improvisation at least improvising with one hand over a chord progression I provided. She has an excellent ear for music and melody and did a really good job. However, she's a different person from me with her own interests and hobbies (even though aesthetically they intersect on many levels so we're quite compatible), so I stopped pushing so much.

None of the women I have dated have been remotely interested in the piano, so the chance of teaching them has never arisen.

However, I think it could be fun correctly positioning hands, sneaking an arm around the waist and stealing a kiss.

The romantic in me can see the possibilities.

I am still a little old fashioned when it comes to women. I still open doors for them, let them go in front of me in a queue and get up and offer them my seat on the bus.

The older ladies look at me and smile, but the younger ones look at me and wonder what the hell I am doing.

Equality perhaps could be killing chivalry.

I was going to say what I always say.... Chivalry is dead 'cause Feminism killed it.

Once I waited 15 minutes outside a door because my date didn't get it. He was really, really confused, and I was just disgusted. I think a Lady should be treated as such. In fact, I personally require it.

If only most women shared my sentiment.

I think there's a Chopin duet like that.  He wrote it for himself and his girlfriend at the time.  I don't remember which one it was.  I remember the number 11 was important and some the hand positions were suggestive.
