Sprained left thumb need advice
on: February 17, 2012, 07:59:48 PM
Hi, my daughter sprained both liganents that run along each side of her left thumb in school gym class. Her hand and finger are in a brace / splint and is going to take quit a few weeks to heal and we are not sure if the growth plate has any damage to it yet.

My question is, she has been really struggling with sheet reading
Can she still continue to take her lessons only using her right hand, perhaps flash cards, right hand exercise and so on?

She is stressing that she needs to continue her lessons so she does not forget the notes.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am not a doctor.  Nor am I a physical therapist.

That said, I can't see any reason at all that your daughter can't keep right on with her lessons -- lots she can do with the right hand alone, never mind learning some theory and doing some (or a lot!) of sight reading.

I do wish that the folks who teach gym classes would come up with classes which didn't, more or less routinely, result in injury to the students.  I sympathise particularly because I broke two fingers in my right hand in gym class, and it did set me back some (but that was years ago...)

You can always find ways of turing a disaster into an advantage -strengthen other areas which you otherwise wouldn't do if you were in perfect shape!
When a search is in progress, something will be found.
