AJSpiano, a request: Video for Brahms exercise no 40a
on: February 17, 2012, 11:14:13 PM
Hi, AJ, I recalled a few weeks ago that you would deliver a video to anyone who requested one. So here is another chance to honour your promise. Right now I just can't do the trills with forearm rotation so my teacher assigned me Brahms exercise no 40a a few days ago, an exercise about forearm rotation. Can you do a video demonstration/ tutorial,  please? If you can, wonderful. If you can learn a few bars of CHopin etude in 1 night, this should be a piece of cake.

I just took a quick look at it..  Can you explain your specific problem? Have you discussed it with your teacher? How fast are you aiming to play it?

It's pretty easy for me (20mins practice should be heaps for me to have it done), so it would help me  out to know why your having trouble so I can point out the right things.

It is a forearm rotation exercise. I am aiming to build up the tempo but start slowly first. I got this exercise because my trill technique was not right, in that my  fingers were doing all the work, and my fingers were either curled inwards, or straightened. My forearm was supposed to be rotating with the finger motion but wasn't. In this exercise in every note you have to rotate the forearm left and right etc. And my arm has to be up  a little.

I think this explains my problem and sorry for the confusing stuff. Good luck with deciphering what i mean in my post.  ;D

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
