Moszkowski - Étude #2 op 72 [My perfomance]
on: February 18, 2012, 07:12:41 PM
Hi to everyone! I'd like to show you my perfomance of "Étude #2" op 72 from Moritz Moszkowski. :)

This study cames from a set of fifteen studies called by Moszkowski "Per aspera". That's a latin phrase which says "Per aspera ad astrum" and the meaning is "Through the difficult to the stars" (through the difficult ways)

He wanted to reflex the difficulty (above all technique) of his works. I didn't know this composer which I've fallen in love. Incredible his armonies and his musical point of view, very similar to mine. I've alredy played his 2 first studies of this opus (I'll show you the first one very soon ^^=

I hope you like my perfomance! :D

ALRIGHT!!!   Bravo!  You have either an innate pianistic ability or great teaching.  Or both!  Your hand is relaxed and never tenses up.  Cosequently, you have wonderful finger dexterity.  Are you by any chance south american?  It's a joy to watch and hear you play!

Hi frankiisko,

Great!  I really enjoyed hearing this etude for the first time.  Not only is there a certain technical purpose, but it's very musical as well.  As I recall, Horowitz used to play some Moszkowski pieces.

Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed your performance and did give me the goosebumps when I saw you performing! I usually listen to the audio, not watch the performance.  ;D I think you can exagerate the expression a little more and shape the right hand a little more to make it more lively. left hand was good, but can do with more phrasing too. But your tempo was very very controlled and congrats on the performance!

Wow, some great virtuosity there ! The piece clearly holds no terrors for you. What you could now work on is to make it more flowing, adding more expression and dynamics. Make the sequence of notes into a musical tone-painting. Keep it in your repertoire and I guess that will come soon enough.

Very good, however I think you can improve on some things (Don't worry, I loved your performance :)!) I think that both of your hands need more sHApEeeeEEEe, if you know what I mean. It just seems that your left hand is a torrent of notes with the same texture, tone, but with changing dynamics. I also feel that your right hand is a little too "poundy" and "pressy". I'd advise you to shape both hands and really exaggerate. I also think that you can do more freedom with the tempo to give it more liveliness and feel like a torrent/charging storm more, towards the end, some parts can be sped up and slowed down to give it real feeling.

All in all, terrific work!
