Recommendations for hand moisturiser/lotion
on: February 25, 2012, 05:54:56 AM
My hands are really dry at the moment and cracks are starting to appear. It doesn't affect my playing one but at all, but I am scared if it goes on, untreated. I tried Sorbelene but it didn't work. Any recommendations for Hand lotion?

I've been using Neutrogena now, for about the past 20 years.  It's the ONLY thing that saves my hands - especially in the winter.  Every night before going to bed.  (I can't stand cream on my hands during the day)

What delights me in this forum is that you can find useful suggestions for virtually every piano-playing related problem  :) :) :) :)
I've tried the argan oil, but I think a cream would be better. Neutrogena? I'll give it a try

I use E45 on a regular basis and as a result, I have hands like a baby's arse.

I've thrown out all of lotions that contain anything toxic.  I use goat's milk lotion mixed with some coconut oil or almond oil.  I subscribe to this doctor's newsletter.  I really enjoy his vast knowledge and passion for educating people about all the dangers of foods and such.

I used to apply lotion regularly - all throughout the day. In my high school, every girl had a supply of victoria's secret lotion in her backpack . . . my scent of choice was pear. Anyway . . . several years ago, a friend told me that mineral oil was to blame for the need to reapply. Many cheap lotions have it. Some expensive ones, too. I started using Curel (which does not have mineral oil) and have used it ever since. I only apply in the morning and before bed and don't have problems unless I drive up to the mountains. :)  Also . . . my mom raised me on chapstick. We had that stuff all over the house, and I wouldn't be caught dead without a stick in my pocket . . . always had dry lips. Then, someone told me that my lips were trained to need the chapstick and to stop using it. Now I never use it (unless I am in the mountains) and don't ever have chapped lips. Anyway, I wonder if it's the same with lotion.

When I had my first baby, I was told to not use baby lotion for the first three months because it would discourage his body from producing its own natural oils (something like that - I am not very scientific; just repeating things I hear :) ). I have often wondered, why does that stop at 3 months? Do you think it remains true that you shouldn't use lotion too much (or maybe at all)? Interestingly enough, most baby lotions contain mineral oil, so they aren't the best choice for babies anyway.

As someone already said E45 is a good cream it's also very reasonably priced.  The Body Shop also do good hand creams, if your hands are very dry then their hemp cream would be perfect.  At the moment I'm using L'Occitane's shea hand cream it's great and has a lovely smell, I've had this tube since Christmas and it's still half full.  However it's very expensive I got my tube for Christmas it's slightly out of my price range I normally stick with the Body Shop. :)

STAY HYDRATED!

I'm black and I don't get ashy hands!  So it should definitely work for you!
