PART I – THEORY RUDIMENTS
The theory rudiments examination comprises the following elements:
• Identify and write keys signatures in treble and bass clefs (up to 4 sharps and 4 flats)
• Write major, natural minor, harmonic minor, and melodic minor scales in treble and bass
clefs using accidentals, not key signatures (up to 4 sharps and 4 flats)
• Identify and write perfect, major and minor intervals (up to an octave) in treble and bass clefs
• Identify and write root position major, minor, augmented, diminished triads on any root in
treble and bass clefs
• Write I, IV, and V triads in major and minor keys
• Identify major and minor chords voiced in SATB, grand staff (all are in root position)
• Identify time signatures given a one-measure rhythm
• Indicate if a rhythm is correct or incorrect according to the given time signature
PART I – AURAL SKILLS
The aural skills examination comprises the following elements:
• Identify perfect consonant intervals (P4, P5, P8)
• Identify imperfect consonant intervals (ma3, mi3, ma6, mi6)
• Identify dissonant intervals (ma2, mi2, ma7, mi7)
• Identify scale tones (i.e., scale degrees selected from a major scale such as the fifth, etc.)
• Identify major and minor triads, and the dominant seventh chord
• Given a brief written melodic example, circle the wrong note when this melody is played
• Given a brief written rhythmic example, circle the wrong note when this rhythm is played
I can't read well at all but the aural part im could do about 90% of.
