Music for Macbeth - urgently need your help!
on: February 26, 2012, 03:07:16 PM
I am a primary school teacher doing a performace of Macbeth. The RSC will be watching our performance and deciding if we can perform in the Globe theatre. We are performing tha part where Banqou is murdered and we have decided to perform his murder in slow motion but I need some dramatic piano music to play and I am struggling to find the best piece. Any help would be gratefully recieved!!

Many thanks  :D

A difficult conundrum this. Prokofiev wrote some pretty evil music -his Suggestions Diabolique are worth exploring -

Something atonal might also be worth exploring -like Webern -because in this music there is no tonal axis -there is no balance - -but maybe this doesn't quite underline murder musically -except perhaps for the insanity part -

Can I alos suggest something a little more off the wall -you might run into copyright issues though -how about a transcription of a heavy metal rock piece? Check out Vikaygoeswild on YouTube!

When a search is in progress, something will be found.

i 've always thought this was a scary piece, definately has a sense of unease/tension to it, i could see it illustrationg a death (the piece after all deals with 'succession' so it seems appropriate i suppose).

just depends how much energy you want to it but this is one of my favorite pieces for this sort of mood:

The succession of witches is very dramatic and perfect!

I think it is possible to use the original piano composition by Bedrich Smetana Macbeth and the witches. You can listen it here:
