Music and Driving
on: February 29, 2012, 02:44:00 PM
Just curious here. What music do you like to listen to while driving a car - -I know there are some petrol heads who just love the sound of their engines - :P

Personally I can't drive to anything other than House or Trance. I have tried Opera, classical  piano music, orchestral, indie rock,  pop -but dance music is just perfect to drive along to!

Motorhead.

It keeps me awake and it is the only music I can hear over the noise of my engine.

Be-bop, groovy jazz...

Miles Davis - Birth of the Cool (excellent by day or by night, city or more rural, always nice)

Some Ben Webster when it's hot.

Charlie Parker...

For me driving has always something of 'vacation', I'm always feeling like a tourist when I'm riding in a car.   And I'm always surprised and find it funny to see how driving for a lot of people is something like 'war'.

It can be such joy driving in a car, with the windows open (without a roof for the lucky ones), a nice tune, some friends, a can of...

Kind regards.

None, for two connected reasons. I like to concentrate on music when I listen to it; music is never background. If it interests me I listen very intently and if it doesn't interest me I prefer silence. Listening intently while driving therefore has the potential to be very dangerous for someone like me. I have done it on odd occasions in the past while stationary at lights or parked with the motor running, but I decided that even this is not entirely wise. I like to be very aware of things going on around me in public.

I used to drive with no music -after a long motorway journey I did get involved in an accident because I literally fell asleep at the wheel -just for a split second - and wandered out of a junction into oncoming traffic -thankfully no one was hurt! Since then I have always listened to music -not too loud, but enough to keep me more relaxed and awake and focused -even on short journeys. Thankfully I still have a clean driving license.

Try being stuck in traffic listening to Wagner's Ring when that first Hoijita Ho!! strikes up.
