Software for Learning to Play Piano
on: March 14, 2012, 04:53:42 PM
Hi there people,

I really want to play piano-keyboard but I'm concerned that I wont be able to afford lessons from a  private teacher. I've searched and found that avarage piano teachers generally charge around $30/hr. which I can't afford. I'm not sure but it seems like piano learning software is a cheap alternative for a good private fortepiano teacher. But I don't know if there are any decent piano learning software out there. I did some searching and stumbled upon rocket piano. I found a website which provides a review of rocket piano. You can check out the website here: https://rocketpiano-learntoplaypiano.blogspot.com/  does anyone know rocket piano? Should I really belive to what this website says? And do you know any other piano learning softwares like this?

Thanks in advance...

There are a number o0f them available. Here is a review site which covers some of them, including the one you've mentioned: https://www.onlinelessonreviews.com/piano-lessons/index.html?gclid=CNGVsZ2M6K4CFeFMpgodcXZCgA

That said, there is no substitute for a real live teacher. Especially at the start.  There are a whole lot of bad habits, misunderstandings and other faults you can pick up that will be hard to get rid of later. A teacher should be able to prevent these.

I would think these self teach things might work tolerably well  if you have access to a friend/relative etc who can give occassional personal assistance. Especially at the very beginning.

I would suggest not to use a software.  You're probably better off just learning how to read the notes and your scales from youtube and work your way on teaching yourself from there.

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
