I have recently noticed that when I am playing the piano my fingers start moving, which is blasted nuisance as I am striving for as much relaxation as possible.
In as many words as possible, can anything be done about this??
Thanks
Thal
Thal,
I have experienced what you are going thru right now. Fortunately I took lessons from a very wise old piano teacher, a piano god of pedagogy and now I am ready to share what he once told me when I was feeling a little twitchy about moving my fingers. As you, I was frustrated of the thought of having to move my fingers contrary to the school of total relaxation. I told him of this and even though he was a god of pedagogy, he very humbly looked me in the eyes and said something I will never forget. As the people tweeted he said,"Pianoplunker.... it is not what you do while you are doing nothing that is important, but rather what you do AFTER you have done nothing that is important" What those words did was to open a new realm of possibilities for me at the piano. Thal, I detect that same level of passion in your post. I think you are ready to stretch the envelope now. Do not be afraid to cross that bridge. You have waited a long time for this. Dont let fear of movement take control, you are the master of your movement. The Lion, the one that every piano repects. Go forth now. Have a movement
