finger movement
on: March 16, 2012, 12:14:48 PM
I have recently noticed that when I am playing the piano my fingers start moving, which is blasted nuisance as I am striving for as much relaxation as possible.

In as many words as possible, can anything be done about this??

Thanks

you need start to focus each finger movement and play the phrase few times,if there is a tension exist in a particular motion. Check for that section and do it again with diffent angle a/height untill the tension is eased. Tension is the main thing reduce your speed and flow.Once the tension is gone you will gain more speed. :D

What do you mean when you play the piano your fingers move? Um, I think they NEED to move in order to play the piano! Do you mean the fingers that aren't playing are moving?

I believe Mozart recommended playing with the nose.  At least it has no moving parts (apart from the odd bogie).

If that's in reference to myself, I actually write quite extensively in the field of comedy. I just have quite high standards about what makes me laugh. By way of example, feigning confusion that I was referring to my blog in the first sentence (as would have been inevitable, had I not gone on to write this sentence) is an example of a mindblowingly predictable and thoroughly lazy witlesscism. It doesn't take nostradamus to know that you'd have gone straight there. However, I'd have nothing but respect for a truly incisive or creative put-down/satirisation of myself.

We know old chap. You are half of one of the greatest double acts in history.

Abbot & Costello make me laugh and so does Laurel & Hardy, but for my money you two are even better than Bing Crosby and Bob Hope.

Being informative with comedy is especially precious.

Thal,
I have experienced what you are going thru right now. Fortunately I took lessons from a very wise old piano teacher, a piano god of pedagogy and now I am ready to share what he once told me when I was feeling a little twitchy about moving my fingers. As you, I was frustrated of the thought of having to move my fingers contrary to the school of total relaxation. I told him of this and even though he was a god of pedagogy, he very humbly looked me in the eyes and said something I will never forget.  As the people tweeted he said,"Pianoplunker.... it is not what you do while you are doing nothing that is important, but rather what you do AFTER you have done nothing that is important"  What those words did was to open a new realm of possibilities for me at the piano. Thal, I detect that same level of passion in your post. I think you are ready to stretch the envelope now. Do not be afraid to cross that bridge. You have waited a long time for this. Dont let fear of movement take control, you are the master of your movement. The Lion, the one that every piano repects. Go forth now. Have a movement

I hope one day to be a teenager. But for now I am stuck in a whirl-wind of System Abuse.
I used to abuse the System just for fun, but now I abuse it just to feel normal

And don't forget to flush!

You write extensively full stop! (period to you Americans) - that's the joke!  No doubt your note for the milkman requires binding.  Still, it's probably too lowbrow for someone of such 'high standards' to get.

All double acts have a beginning - I saved this one! All 17 pages - you'd need a long rainy night.  https://www.isstip.org/tensehands.htm  (it has beavers! - no, the animal)

Oh, and for those that miss him our old friend stevebob (Sotto voce) makes a guest appearance.

Well, I particularly thought the original post was hilarious.  Joke is on me. Having a chance to LOL at yourself  once in a while is good I think.
