Mashing the keys in F#
on: March 18, 2012, 06:13:32 AM
Just some random almost pentantonic playing - I've never really recorded myself improvising a solo piano piece before..  I think I need to make more effort to consider the direction of the piece and what type of mood I want to create instead of just playing whatever happens in the moment..

Particularly within individual sections - I've feel I've got no idea where I'm going till I get there as I'm playing this, which maybe leads to a general lack of direction, where as if I'd paid more attention I'd no doubt have come up with some more interesting ideas..

I enjoyed listening to this a lot! What particularly grabbed me was the pulse running all the way through - even those sustained chords (3:10ish) and the long octave (3:20) were dripping with rhythmic intention and forward motion.

I also liked the contrast between the mostly pentatonic outer sections and the more diatonic middle part.

If i did have a focus at all this was it. - Not that I'm that great at it, but I think you can get away with an enormous amount note wise if you maintain good rhythm throughout.
