Audition Repertoire
on: March 19, 2012, 07:35:35 AM
Hello! I need some advice. I want to know if the pieces that I'm working on are good enough for Auditions.  P.S. I'm working on a lot of pieces because different schools have different requirements. :)

Bach- WTC 2- Dmin or F# min
Beethoven- Sonata no.7 op.10 no.3
Chopin- Scherzo no.1
Chopin-Etude no.12 op.25
Liszt- Transcendental etude no.4 "Mazeppa"
Debussy- Images 2

Comments and replies would greatly be appreciated. :)

Auditioning for what? College? Looks good to me. Of course, it's more how you play then what you play.

Your audition repertoire looks great and quite impressive!  I agree with the first comment, that it doesn't really matter what you play but how you play it.  College professors are looking for your own interpretation and feelings of the piece, which make it come alive.  And, do not play things that are too difficult for your skill level.  It is better to play pieces that are a little bit easier and ones that you can handle, rather than ones that are difficult and you mess up in an audition.  Many of these songs that you have listed are challenging pieces.  Make sure you can handle them and working on interpretation, phrasing, and feelings (as that's what they look for most).  Good luck with all of your auditions and your future!

The pieces all look suitable. My only suggestion would be to add a twentieth (or twenty first) century piece.

Thank you for your comments.! I'm halfway done with the repertoire, and I'm just making sure if its good enough. Anyways, Audition is still months and months away, but just being extra prepared just in case.

I'm planning on Auditioning in the following:
1. Julliard
2. Eastman
3. Manhattan School of Music
4. Mannes
5. Oberlin
6. Curtis

And others! going to be Auditioning in more schools just to be sure.

Yes, thank you for your concern. That's why I have Debussy's Images 1. but I'm still open to more options.

You've got pieces in all periods based on the list so that's a thumbs up. :)
