I will actually like all of them but then again I couldn't afford them and I'd play them twice everyday. how 'bout you.

I would stick with my piano because if I started other instruments, I would have to compromise my piano practice.

I would probably play the organ and harpsichord along with the piano if I were to purchase other instruments. ;D

..I do own 3 guitars, a bass guitar, a clarinet, a full set of blues harps, and a ukulele..  I clearly need something from the brass category... and a saxophone.

I also used to own a violin but it was "lost" (I won't go into details) and I'm somewhat angry about that.

I don't play my instruments often, but can play them all atleast semi-competently, piano is always the main driven focus though.

Ooooh. I do wish you would.  ;D

And, a ukelele?  ::)

I do play recorder, and have had a go at organ, bagpipes and violin. I managed to keep my violin, despite some serious attempts on its life. Allegedly by music lovers.

The organ was a church organ, which burnt to the ground within a week of me first playing it. God may be a music lover, too. In any case, have never thought it prudent to try again.

I've never played the uke much, its fairly ghastly next to my extremely beautiful acoustic guitar..

I'll give you the cliff notes -
  • I moved from WA to VIC with my gf, we lived together in a TINY apparment, as such many of our belongings were in storage..
  • we broke up, in the fall out we had to share a few expenses for a little while
  • I naively believed she was paying for the storage when she told me that she was.
  • turns out the storage went unpaid for for around 2 months, all our possessions were sold.

I eagerly await you version of Tiptoe Through the Tulips in the Audition room.

Bummer about the violin, though.

I have never touched my uke since I bought my first uke banjo or banjolele as it is often referred to.

Might brighter and more powerful sound.

3 violins, viola, 3 guitars, flute, oboe, uke, harmonica, melodica, had a harp (gave away to a relative), 3 keyboards, Fender Rhodes, 4 pianos, 2 clavichords,

I'll think of something else in a minute.

voice - does that count?

I think I'd stick with just one.  It sounds like more work to practice more than one instrument.  It would be fun to be able to play all of them well, but that's not realistic.

I went to a week long jazz camp for highschool students once - I remember them saying to the brass players that if they can't play the piano then the day they leave camp is the day they MUST book their first lesson if they ever intend to be any good at blowing their trumpets.

Also, the trumpet teacher, who was a slightly phenomenal player, was also as good if not better at piano than either of the piano teachers..

True.  Piano and voice.  For use as tools.  But one main instrument.  That would be easier than trying to play everything.

Given no limits, I would have 7 concert grand pianos -Bechstein -Yamaha -Kawai -Steinway -Bluthner -Bosendorfer -Fazioli

I would have a Schimmel upright as well -

No other instrument interests me.

When a search is in progress, something will be found.

Neat thread!  Let's see... three Steinways.  One french horn.  One clarinet (I'm no good at it at all!).  Three recorders (soprano, alto, tenor -- I'd love to have a bass!).  One trombone (don't ask...).  Two flutes.  Two guitars, but one's busted.  I don't own the organ I play -- it's in the local church.

I've always wanted to try bagpipes -- any flavour; never had the chance.  And I'd like a harpsichord, but it would have to be good one and those don't come cheap...

I would fill a studio, of course. I used to jam with a band, playing bass guitar, but I sure wish I could play better than that (it's horrendous). I wish to learn the basics of all the parts of a band so I can compose pop songs.  :D

Rock instruments:
drum set - 3 toms, 3 cymbals, snare, bass, cowbell, chimes
bass guitar
electric guitar #1 + amp + effects/distortion
electric guitar #2 + amp with a clean sound
acoustic guitar
digital piano/ synthesizer
the DJ turntable/ sample thing
beat box
bongos

Classical instruments:
grand piano
classical guitar
violin
double bass??? - If I can play the bass guitar, which has the same tuning, would it be easier to learn?

Did I miss anything? oh yeah... the VOICE...

I'd be content just mastering the piano thing.

A set of bagpipes and a fiddle, however, might be fun?

Well... I play piano (obviously), bagpipe, flute, trumpet, harmonica, guitar, violin, mountain dulcimer, hammered dulcimer, harp, recorder, accordion, ocarina, (this is where it starts getting fuzzy, depending on personal opinion on what you'd count. Usually I don't count these, but I can still play them, so I'll list them) jazz whistle/flute, various mallet percussion instruments, a little ukulele, and a little bass guitar.

I don't really know how I made time for all of them, there's no set schedule or anything, I just ended up learning them, saving up for the instruments or even receiving them as a Christmas gift, and ended up with time to practice them (I did the actual learning of most of these during summer or some other time when there was a lot of time to practice each instrument). And yes, I can actually sit down with a book of music and play songs from it on the instrument, not just make sound come out.
