Question about left hand and mastering the piano.
on: March 23, 2012, 06:03:00 PM
Hi. First of all, I am not a complete beginner with piano. I used to take piano lessons one time a week aside to my folk dance lessons between the ages 8-13. I have stopped for quite a while but recently I found myself motivated enough to start learning again. Here are a couple of questions I have:
1) How do I play/adjust my left hand if I know how to play something (by ear) with my right hand (I am not, of course, talking about hard pieces of music)? Where can I learn the basic (or intermediate) chords?

2) I know 5 years of piano lessons one time a week is not much. Needless to say, I still struggle while learning from note sheets. Does it take a lot of time to really get going easily with note sheets or do even professionals need to learn a piece of music slowly note after note? Maybe I just lack the talent needed?

My suggestion is to go to the library and see if you can find a book on harmony to study.  After studying harmony, try studying and playing Bach four-part chorales.  I'm curious -- do you have a mathematical background?   Because 2sin18 = 2(sqrt(5)-1)/4 = 2/(sqrt(5)+1).

Thanks for the suggestion. I might as well try searching the internet though.
About the nickname, I know what you are hinting at, but the full version of it would take more space so I left it as an inverse to the original.
