I really enjoyed it. Peaceful and soothing, and excellent execution!

What piano was this recorded on?

I would love to hear you playing this again in 50 years time -You play this beautifully now, but I think the Nocturnes of Chopin are born from love and suffering -I hope you never experience the latter!
When a search is in progress, something will be found.

Wow that sounds a bit heavy, considering that in 50 years persons of the age of Hakki, and me, are probably not alive anymore.  :o

I hear a lot of maturity, and nostalgia, and, yes, also a lot of suffering and love in this interpretation. To me this is a very special Nocturne and I think it's not easy to interprete. I really liked this recording of it!

I'm sorry that I contributed at least 10 of those seemingly many downloads, my internet connection is very slow today and I tried again and again to listen to this.

virtuoso4 , emill: thaks for the nice words.

emill, these Rode NT-5 mics with the omni capsules continue to surprise me too.
I just tried a slightly different mic position and I am also very satisfied with the result.
Also the preamps on the Soundcraft Sprit Notepad mixer are amazingly quiet.
I am very fond of the quality of both the NT-5 mics and the mixer. A really good bang for the buck.

Hi hakki,

You played this nocturne with attention to detail, marvelous execution, and with expressiveness throughout.  You managed the chains of trills, a Chopin trademark, wonderfully.  Thanks for sharing your recording here.

Hi hakki

On positioning microphones, I would recommend your second option pictured--putting distance between the the mics and the piano.  That allows for a more blended and finished sound, plus the omni mics will pick up a richer sound including the room ambiance that way.  Parallel mic separation is best set at 12 inches or 30.5 cm.

Close-in recording, as depicted in your first picture, is used far more for jazz and pops due to its more percussive sound.  It's not as appropriate for classical piano music.

I hope this helps.

David

Thank you very much David !! Both for your nice comments and for your suggestion on recording setup.

I think I should have been more clear about the pictures. The first picture has somewhat mislead you.

Actually it is the very same setup as picture 2, as viewed from the rear of the mics. But the angle I have taken the photo makes them seem as if they are placed much closer to the piano. The first pic shows how the mics in the second picture is pointed at the piano. Also the distance between them is about 40 cm, but since they are closer to the camera than the piano, they seem to be placed farther apart from each other.
Next time I will try your suggestion of placing them 12 inches apart.

regards,

Hakki
