yamaha C2, Kawai RX2 pricing in Canada
on: March 28, 2012, 09:17:57 PM
Hi,

Has anyone bought a yamaha C2 or kawai RX2 in canada recently? Care to share how much you paid for, or PM me privately? I have been comparing the price quote that I got in Canada with someone got in US, and feel a bit "ripped off". I have tried negotiating (for a bit), not very successful.

These are the prices I got:
yamaha C2: 23,500 CAN
kawai RX2: 20,000 CAN

My husband is saying it is not a fair comparison, the dealer in canada is probably getting a different cost base than their US counterpart, as a result not able to offer as attractive pricing.

Thanks.

What offers did you make to the dealer?

I didn't negotiate on RX2, as I thought the price is very reasonable.   For C2, I had expected to be around the same price as RX2, but slightly higher due to the brand, so I suggested 21,000  CAN.  The consultant said no, and good luck.

If you are buying brand new, you need to shop around.  Going to a single dealer is not enough.  Go to three or four dealers at least and get quotes.  Don't act like you are emotionally attached to the piano (even though you probably are) when at the shop.  It might help to bring in another pianist, teacher, or technician when you shop - someone you can have an objective discussion with, in regard to the qualities of the instruments you are looking at.  Having a fellow music professional with you can give you leverage, as the dealer will see you are an informed buyer. Be prepared to walk away from any deal, no matter how much you like the instrument.  You can go back a week later to look again, but the dealer doesn't know that  ;).

Some sales people present the scenario: another family wants this instrument too, they are coming in tomorrow for another look.  You can take it today for 26K (even though you should be paying 20k).  Be prepared to walk away.

Also consider a slightly used instrument (maybe 5 or so years old) if you are on a tight budget.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I would bite your hand off for either of these pianos -even if I could afford either instrument -it would cost me a small fortune in sound proofing my home enough so that I could play it without being criminalised.

When a search is in progress, something will be found.

Take Your Seat! Trifonov Plays Brahms in Berlin

“He has everything and more – tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that,” as Martha Argerich once said of Daniil Trifonov. To celebrate the end of the year, the star pianist performs Johannes Brahms’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko on December 31.
