on: March 29, 2012, 05:53:37 AM
Iv'e just bought a new upright Perzina piano.i'm supposed to get it today.
I want to know if it's safe to play it before the first tuning?can it cause any harm to the strings or anything?

nah i doubt it, those things played and ajusted some before they leave the factory. alittle playing around won't do any 'harm' except maybe to your ears if the tuning is all over the place. if anything you might help things along a bit by helping the strings start to settle in some then tune it, usually i think it's probably a good idea to let the piano 'adjust' to its new home for several weeks (think 4-8 weeks) and get some play time in then tune it, this will proably lead to a pretty stable first tuning that should last well into the next scheduled  one

Agree entirely.

Actually, the more you play it before its first tuning, the better. Lots of hours playing helps the piano settle faster and the string vibrations 'season' the wood which is a life-long process.
