She paid me more??
on: April 01, 2012, 10:28:17 PM
I got my monthly check today from my 2 students (they're siblings). The mom paid me $180.00 for next month's lesson. The monthly fee for her two kids is supposed to be $140.00/month. She was supposed to pay me only $90.00 because they missed 2 lessons from the previous month. When I got home and looked at the check, I was kinda surprised that she paid me more. What should I do with this?

Let her know, but offer to keep it as advanced payment on future lessons.  You've got the money right now that way.  It's less work for everyone that way and more security for you.

Haha... Or consider it a nice tip. :)

Is the mommy in question Japanese?? When I took dancing lessons in Kyoto, even if the TEACHER didn't come, we still owed the same amount of money.  All respect due to the teacher, no discounts no matter what.

I'd certainly expect to pay for a lesson I didn't turn up to. But not if the teacher didn't turn up.
In fact, I pay my cleaning lady when we go away because I think that's fair, (she doesn't clean when we're away) but not if she goes away. Most people think that's mad, but they would expect a piano teacher to still charge. The teacher at my daughter's school wont give a lesson if the student forgets their music but still charges... I think that's a bit much. She could do something without the music I would have thought.

That's ridiculous.

Looks like she just misunderstood and doubled the $90 you said she owed and gave you $180. Not a big deal, just tell her.
