Playing at an uncomfortably high tempo?
on: April 03, 2012, 10:22:30 PM
Is it a good idea to put the metronome at a high tempo (~124 bpm for me) to force yourself to digest the notes faster?
I noticed when I would play for a while at high tempo and then move it back to my normal range (60-85 bpm) that I am able to look further ahead in the music than usual.
Thanks!

I dont' think so.
You might play faster - but how is your technique if you learn it in an uncomfortable way like that?
I would add tempo speed gradually and concentrate on everything at same time.

If you want to focus on tempo alone - why not tap it out with your fingers?
This way you won't end up making uncomfortable compensations with your hands
when you play it - and it might help in long run.
