Which is better rep?
on: April 05, 2012, 01:01:02 AM
Sorry if this is a double post, but I'm not sure who looks where...
If I'm playing Chopin Op. 26 #5 (thirds) and Ligeti Desorde
is it better paired with Mozart K. 332 and and Bach P&F (open to input, perhaps WTC 1, E-flat)
or paired with Mozart K. 576, and one of the WTC's a minor preludes and fugues?

My suggestion of Bach immediately before the Chopin etude would be WTC 1 B minor, the last prelude and fugue in the book. In contrast to the very chromatic Chopin etude, the B minor prelude has an almost modal flavor in places, and the fugue doesn't seem to undo it. The B-major chord at the end of the fugue goes with the G-sharp minor harmony that begins the etude. The etude ends on an Ab major chord so from there, you would be in an excellent position to slam into Mozart K. 457 in C minor. I'm not at all familiar with Ligeti's work, though.

Hi iratior, Those are some really brilliant ideas. I have to level with you though. The two Mozarts are each ones that I have played before (K 332, about 5 years ago K 576 about 10 years ago). The etudes are new and the Bach's are uncharted territory all together.
That being said, could you offer a similarly brilliant suggestion using one of the Mozarts I put forth?
Thanks!
