Score request:D.946 No.1 the second trio crossed out by Schubert
on: April 05, 2012, 04:40:45 AM
I have searched through out the internet for this, but in vain. All that i could find is the "allegro assai-adante-tempo I" version.
Here i am begging for help to find the score sheet/transcript of this short beautiful part:
D.946 No.1 the second trio crossed out by Schubert (andantino in 2/4),which was played not so very infrequently as heard in the recordings by Arrau, Pires and Uchida .

Schubert cancelled the second trio in his manuscript. Therefore the 19th century Breitkopf collected edition, which I believe was edited by Brahms, didn't include it. The PS version is a reproduction from that edition, as is the Dover reprint.
It's in the Wiener Urtext edition but they indicate it as an Appendix to the main text of the piece. Of course that edition isn't public domain so you won't find it online.
I suppose there could be another old out-of-copyright edition that includes the second trio, but I think it's unlikely. I'd expect that performing editions from the pre-Urtext era, if there are any, would have been based on the collected edition, not the manuscript.

This helps! At least i know now that the Urtext edtion includes this second trio.
i've found some information about that Urtext edition but not sure if the second trio is included or not. Now i get it.
Thanks anyway!

If my memory serves me the urtext edition by Henle does include the crossed-out episode whereas the urtext edition by Bärenreiter does not.
So you might want to check out the Henle edition...
